Rhodes, the fourth biggest island of Greece, is on the eastern coast of the Aegean-Sea.
The location makes its weather the Warms in the Mediterranean, which makes it a perfect vacation spot all through the year. Rhodes is a highly touristic island, but if you skip the vacation packages and create by yourself the vacation, choosing individually the flight and the hotel, you will be able to experience the authentic side of Rhodes in the South-Eastern part of the island. Take a car and wander around this magical place. You won’t be sorry.
Accommodation:
We spent the first night at the “Sentido Ixian Grand Hotel” for adults only. The hotel is located on the western part of the island, a fifteen-minute drive from the airport. When arriving, a very friendly man with a pretty good Hebrew received us, he sat us down in the lobby and serves us chilled lemonade as we waited to check into our room. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the view.
In the evening we attended a concert in a bar near the pool with a local singer who sang all the old classics, each evening offers a different creative program. The hotel was really fun, and the highlight was our room. To enter the hot tub in the evening and enjoy the view, I can get used to it pretty fast 🙂
One night cost us 480 ILS through the website HOTELS.
We spent the following three days at the “Eden Roc Hotel” on the eastern coast of the island, about a twenty-five-minute drive from the airport. We stayed at a gorgeous suite on the fourth floor of the main building with a huge lounge, an enormous bathroom and a cozy bedroom with a view to the pool and the sea.
The room has a minibar with free soft drinks and beers. The service was all-inclusive. The hotel has four restaurants: Italian, Greek, Mediterranean, and Asian. You need to order in advance. I learned my lesson from my first stay at an all-inclusive hotel, and already in Israel, I made a reservation for the first two evenings. I highly recommend to do this and not give up on this experience. In my opinion, it creates a more luxurious experience from the stay at the hotel.
In the evening there are concerts at the hotel, an entertaining program for children and ping-pong, billiard and more games that grownups can also enjoy. The meals are very good, also in the main dining room. All through the day all around the hotel are bars offering alcoholic and soft drinks.
We enjoyed our stay there and we’ll definitely be happy to come back during our next vacation in Rhodes. The price per night is 350 ILS for a couple through the website- HOTELS
Recommended beaches on the island’s eastern shore: Saint Paul Beach- a magical bay right next to the pastoral town Lindos. The bay offers tanning beds with comfortable mattresses. A bed costs 10 euro, which is expensive, but because we spent five hours there it was worth the price. The water is amazingly clear. At the end of the bay, there is a beautiful tavern, which you can enjoy if you order their food. We didn’t sit there so I can’t tell about the food, but the location- Wow! Location
Antony Quin Bay- A beautiful bay that requires a light walk down to the water. On the way, there is a beautiful tavern with a view of the bay. The beach is recommended for snorkeling, there are plenty of beautiful fish and the water is so clear that it’s fun to swim far distances. All around the beach, in all sorts of natural corners, you can find a chair to sit on. I love the natural and un-commercialized of this beach. A chair costs 5 euro. Location
Kallithea Springs- Wow what an amazing place! Chairs are spread all along the shore, stairs down the water in all sorts of spots and one magical café where one can spend hours. We ate a Greek salad, Tzatziki, and grilled Halloumi cheese, everything was tasty and fresh. By the way, the best coffee I had in Greece was there, Fredo cappuccino. The water is delightful, the perfect temperature and the colors are stunning. The entrance costs 3 euros per person. Highly recommended! Location
Recommended towns:
Lindos- located about 50 km from Rhodes city, an about one hour drive. It’s recommended to come during day time and enjoy its beauty, but you can travel there all through the night. The town is so beautiful, and despite how touristic it is one can feel the real Greece there. It’s full of narrow and pastoral alleys where one can meet the town’s local elderly people. The town is full of souvenir shops, shopping boutiques, and magical restaurants on rooftops where a panoramic view of the entire town is displayed. I recommend to spend a few hours there and to get lost in Lindo’s magical alleys. Location
The Old Town
The old town is surrounded by middle-aged walls who make it look historical and fascinating. It’s so beautiful and reminded me a bit of Acre in Israel. It is full of alleys packed with shops, stands, taverns, cafés, and ice cream shops. It’s nice to arrive during the early evening when there’s still a little light and the weather is chillier and all the stores are still open. During the end season (around the end of September) the stores close at 23:00, but the pubs stay open until after hours. Location
Faliraki
If you stay on the eastern shore of the island and you’re looking for a lively town to visit during the evening, Faliraki is definitely for you. It has a long street full of cafes, bars, restaurants and night clubs. It’s highly recommended for young people looking for a night out, but also for passengers who like to wander around during the evening between souvenir shops and various sweet cafes. Generally, it is a very nice town. Location
Summary
This is my second time in Rhodes. During my first visit four years ago I stayed at the western shore of the island in a half-Board service hotel and didn’t really leave the hotel. This time I got to know the other side of her. I saw some amazing beaches which I didn’t know existed and beautiful and pastoral towns where I loved to take long walks. If I find a good deal during the summer I won’t hesitate to visit for the third time!
